Samsung's thin phone launched, Motorola delayed

The holiday shopping season is a lucrative time for wireless phone makers. So it's no surprise that Samsung's new ultrathin phone, a rival to Motorola Inc.'s popular Razr model, arrived in stores Tuesday.
What is a surprise, though, is that a few highly anticipated Motorola phones - all high-end, fashionable models - have been no-shows so far.
"You have several phones that are late," said Mike Walkley, a stock analyst at Piper Jaffray & Co. in Minneapolis. "We expected them to be out by now." advertisement
Motorola knows delays can hurt: Two years ago, production snafus caused it to miss a holiday launch of a key line of camera phones. It was a costly mistake and a blow to the company's image....
