BlackBerry leaps boldly to next level

Electronic mail has been the be-all and end-all for the BlackBerry, a hand-held gadget from a Canadian company, Research in Motion. Because users grow so attached to it, the palm-size device is typically referred to as a CrackBerry.
E-mail is still the focal point of the newest member of the family, the 8700c, offered by Cingular for $299 when purchased with a two-year service contract.
But now you obsess about your e-mail on a vivid color screen that is a big step forward from earlier models. Battery life is shorter, but the screen is much easier to read. The backlight even changes intensity to reflect the level of lighting in your environment, so you can see the thing in a movie theater, even if those around you might prefer total darkness.....
